A Memorable Day
Joyce ended her speech by presenting Mr. Matheson with a large Rupert the Bear retirement card containing a large number of signatures. There was a suggestion of a look alike , but perhaps not too much attention should be paid to that!
There were gifts too, the choice of which Mr. Matheson had been involved. First a life-jacket, not the easiest thing in the world to don - or so it seemed! All was well however, for Brian Turner lent a hand.
Next a smaller package containing a flash gun for his camera, then two envelopes - one with a cheque inside, the other a voucher with which to buy some software for his computer. Mr. Matheson told the members a little about the use he made of his computer and also mentioned a couple of things that helped to keep him mentally alert since his retirement from York District Hospital, the Hospice and ia. The third he didn't intend to specify, an omission which provoked a burst of laughter as he obviously meant Mrs Matheson who had accompanied her husband to the meeting.
